How to Access your Asbury Account for the First Time
Applies to: Students, Faculty, Staff Revised: 2022-10-24 Status: Approved Answers the questions: How do I know what my account credentials are? How do I access my account? What is my email? How do I set my password? You will use your Asbury University network account when logging into all campus computers, services, and sites, including your Asbury Email Account, Discovery, and Portal. To get started, visit office.asbury.edu to sign in to your Asbury account. The default credentials for Asbury students are as follows: Username: firstname.lastname@asbury.edu Password: first four letters of last name followed by ZIP code || Ex. smit54321 (no spaces, no capitals) For students without ZIP codes: use five zeroes (00000) For students whose last names have fewer than four letters: 3 letter last name: add your first initial before your full last name + zip code. || Ex. jdoe54321 2 letter last names: add the first 2 letters of your first name before your last name + zip code. If the default password does not let you in, you may reset your password by visiting password.asbury.edu or the Service Desk can reset it for you after verifying your identity over the phone or in person. You can reach the Service Desk at (859)-858-5177 or in-person in Kinlaw 131. Multi-Factor Authentication The first time you login to your Asbury account, you will be promoted to setup multi-factor authentication (MFA). Click Next to continue setup. The default authentication method is to use the free Microsoft Authenticator app. If you have it installed on your mobile device, select Next and follow the prompts to add this account. If you don't have it installed, search for Microsoft Authenticator in the app store on your smartphone. Once installed, follow the on-screen instructions to set up your account. If you would rather use SMS messages sent to your phone instead, select I want to set up a different method. Microsoft will ask for your mobile number, then send you an SMS message containing a 6-digit code to verify your device. Once you complete the instructions to specify your additional verification method, the next time you sign in to your Asbury account, you'll be prompted to provide the additional verification information or action, such as typing the verification code provided by your authenticator app or sent to you by text message. After registering for MFA, it is strongly recommended to also add a third authentication method in case your phone is lost or stolen. To do this, visit mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info and click Add sign-in method. Select a method, and follow the on-screen instructions to add the third method to your account.

How do I use my phone number to verify my identity? Overview All students, faculty, and staff are required to access Asbury services using multi-factor authentication (MFA). This means that users will be prompted to use both their Asbury account username and password and another additional form of authentication, such as an SMS, email, authentication app, or a hardware token when logging in on new devices through their Asbury Account. This document walks through how to enroll and configure MFA for your Asbury account. Table of Contents Enroll your Asbury Sign-in for MFA Adding Additional MFA Methods to your Asbury Account Enroll your Asbury Sign-in for MFA When signing in to your Asbury account before configuring MFA, you may be prompted with a message indicating "more information required." If you are not presented with this page, visit https://aka.ms/mfasetup to begin the enrollment process. Choose Next. The default authentication method is to use the free Microsoft Authenticator app. If you have it installed on your mobile device, select Next and follow the prompts to add this account. If you don't have it installed there is a link provided to download it. If you would rather use SMS messages sent to your phone instead, select I want to set up a different method. Microsoft 365 will ask for your mobile number, then send you an SMS message containing a 6-digit code to verify your device. Once you complete the instructions to specify your additional verification method, the next time you sign in to your Asbury account, you'll be prompted to provide the additional verification information or action, such as typing the verification code provided by your authenticator app or sent to you by text message. Note: Generally you'll only need the additional verification method the first time you sign into a new app or device, or after you've changed your password. You probably won't be asked for the additional verification code on a daily basis, unless your organization requires it. You're now set up with Multi-Factor Authentication for your Asbury account! Whenever you sign-in on a new device, you will be promoted to verify your identity using one of the MFA methods you entered. Adding Additional MFA Methods to your Asbury Account Adding multiple methods to verify your account can safeguard you from loosing access to your account and provide you with the convenience of multiple authentication methods when signing into your account. See below for how to add more FMA methods to your account. 1. Logon to https://myprofile.microsoft.com 2. Under Security info click Update Info 3. Click Add Method 4. Select from the list the kind of authentication you'd like to add 5. Next, you will be asked to enter details about your choice and verify. For example, if adding a phone number, you will be asked to verify the phone number via text or voice call. 6. Enter the verification code given to you by your chosen authentication method 7. Click Done Your authentication method has been added and will now be an option for MFA when you sign-in to Asbury services. To add a third authentication method, you can repeat the process so that you have additional options when signing in.

How To Reset Your Password, Unblock, or Unlock Your Asbury Account

When I sign-in, it says my account is blocked, how do I unblock my account? I tried to sign-in too many times and locked myself out, what do I do? Overview This article will walk through steps to get you back into your account if you have lost access. If you have not previously set security questions, a secondary email, or a phone number for password reset, please see the article Enroll your Asbury Account for Password Reset. Instructions 1. To reset your password, unblock, or unlock your Asbury account, visit password.asbury.edu to get started. 2. Enter your Asbury email address as your User ID and complete the CAPTCHA challenge. 3. If you need to reset your password or remove an account block, select the I Forgot My Password option. If you know your password, but your account is locked, select I know my password, but still can't sign in. 4. Now select a method to verify your identity from the options listed. 5. After successfully verifying, you will be prompted to reset your password. If you selected to unlock your account instead, your account will be unlocked. Your new password must meet Asbury's password requirements policies. Passwords not meeting these standards will be rejected. Passwords must be twelve characters or more in length. Passwords must contain 3 of the following character types: Numbers, Uppercase Letters, Lowercase Letters, & Symbols. Passwords cannot match previously used passwords or any words on Asbury's blocked phrase list. Passwords must be reset every eighteen months. If you enter an incorrect password three times, your account will be automatically locked. To unlock your account you can do so using these instructions or by waiting 1 hour for your account to unlock automatically. When your Asbury password is changed, it will automatically change your password for Discovery, Portal, and your email. Your old password will no longer work in any Asbury service. 6. You will receive a success message when the password has been reset. 7. Return to the Asbury website or service that you need to access and enter your username and your newly created password. Overview You can add new phone numbers, or update existing numbers, from your Asbury profile page. This articles outlines how. If you no longer have access to your old phone number and are unable to complete these steps, please contact the Service Desk to have your MFA registration reset. Important: This process only updates your MFA verification methods. To update your phone umber for emergency alerts, please read the article "How to Enroll Your Phone Number in Emergency Texting" How to change your phone number 1. To change your phone number for multi-factor authentication, logon to https://myprofile.microsoft.com 2. Under Security info click Update Info 3. Under Phone click Change 4. You will be prompted to enter the phone number you'd like to use for multi-factor authentication. 5. Click Next 6. You will be prompted to verify your new number through a text or call. Complete the verification to finish adding the new number to your account.

Overview This how-to solution shows how you can add the Microsoft Authenticator App for use as a multi-factor authentication method for your Asbury account. For general instructions on setting up MFA for your account, see our primary MFA support solution: Enroll and Configure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Instructions 1) Visit myprofile.microsoft.com and login using your Asbury account credentials. 2) Under 'Security info" click "Update Info' 3) Click 'Add Method' 4) Select the 'Authenticator App' option from the drop-down menu and click 'Add' 5) Follow the on-screen instructions to install the app and configure it. a. Download the Microsoft Authenticator App for your device: Apple iOS | Android b. Open the Authenticator app and enable notifications. Then add an account and select 'Work or School.' c. Click 'Next' in the browser window and press "Scan QR code" on your smartphone. Scan the QR code using your smartphone. Your phone will be registered as a MFA device so that you can use the Authenticator app to confirm your identity. d. Click 'Next.' You will be promoted to approve a test MFA notifcation on your smartphone. Approve the notification and click 'Next' in your browser. 6) Your smartphone is now registered to use the Microsoft Authenticator App as an MFA method! Whenever you sign-in to a new device, you can now open the Microsoft Authenticator smartphone app to confirm your identity.

Overview If you need to change your account settings or troubleshooting a problem with your account, Microsoft provides a number of services to self-manage your account. The "My Signins" and "My Account" pages are web services for changing and viewing account details. My Sign-Ins On the My Sign-Ins Page, users can view recent logins and activity on their account. This page can be useful for checking both unauthorized attempts to access your account or for troubleshooting accidental log-in attempts from, email clients and other services connected to your Microsoft account. See recent sign-ins and account activity at the link below: https://mysignins.microsoft.com My Account The My Account page is where you can access all the settings associated to your Microsoft account. Including your security info, passwords, settings, sign-ins, and Office 365 software downloads. Managing Connected Devices Also from the "My Account" page, you can manage devices connected to your Microsoft account. To do this, Click "Manage Devices" under the Devices header. Next, you will see a list of devices currently signed into your account. From here you can remove any unauthorized, lost, or unused devices and they will be disabled from using your account. Please note: Some login locations listed by Microsoft may be inaccurate depending on your network configuration. Click "Submit" You can now login to your Asbury account using your new password. Remember Asbury's general password policies: You will be prompted to reset your Asbury password every twelve months. How to Enroll Your Asbury Account for Self-Service Password Reset

How do I enroll my account for online password reset? Overview Asbury University's password management is hosted in Microsoft's Azure cloud service. This allows Asbury students, faculty, and staff to reset their passwords and unlock their accounts from the online platform anytime after they have enrolled. For more information on resetting a forgotten password, please read this article: How To Reset Your Password, Unblock, or Unlock Your Asbury Account Instructions When logging in to an Microsioft 365 resource, you will see a prompt to set up the security features required to do online password reset. Please see the process below for how to navigate these prompts to enroll in self-service password resets. 1. Open a browser on your laptop or desktop and navigate to office.asbury.edu to sign into your Asbury email online. 2. Enter your credentials and you should be prompted with the following message "more information required." 3. Click "next" and you will be asked to confirm your current password. 4. Once confirmed, you can begin to fill out the security options. a. You have the option to enter a phone number, a secondary email (non-asbury), and set up security questions. b. Please note, you must set up at least 2 of the 3 options. We recommend you add all 3 options if possible. 5. After setting up your information, you can click "finish" and continue to your email online. Now you can reset your Asbury password at anytime by clicking "forgot password" on the main sign-in page.
